Swale Technologies and JFE Advantech sign distribution agreement at Ocean Business
Swale Technologies had a busy time at Ocean Business last week, and not just dealing with prospective customers. They also signed a new agreement to represent JFE Advantech – the Japanese manufacturer of high specification oceanographic instruments and sensors (including the well-known fast-response Rinko dissolved oxygen sensor).
JFE Advantech have many years of experience in underwater instruments, previously trading as Alec Electronics, and are widely used in the Asian markets. Their products have several unique features which set them aside from competitors. They offer fluorometers specifically designed for Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB), and characterisation of multiple species of plankton. Very high range Turbidity sensors, micro-scale dissolved oxygen eddy co-variance sensors and electromagnetic current sensors, useful for clear water where ADCPs are unsuitable. Many of their instruments have integrated wipers for anti-biofouling – including a CTD.
Swale Technologies has supplied underwater instrumentation and equipment to customers throughout the UK and Europe for 33 years. Customers include environmental agencies, researchers and operators in the civil engineering, defence, dredging, oil & gas, renewable energy and survey sectors.

Revolutionising ocean space mapping and monitoring
The ocean is a crucial part of solving global climate, food and security challenges. Kongsberg Gruppen (KONGSBERG) is a global leader within advanced robotics and sensor technology to map, monitor and understand ocean space. This technology will become part of a new business area, Kongsberg Discovery.

Kongsberg Discovery will be led by Martin Wien Fjell. He has held several management positions in KONGSBERG over the past ten years and has since 2017 led Global Customer Support in Kongsberg Maritime.

Duties of the Chief Geophysicist
• To represent the business as the Chief Geophysicist to the Client, alongside the Senior Geophysicist and the Senior Management Team, from an office or remote location.
• To work closely with the Senior Geophysicist to supervise, mentor and motivate the wider team of Geophysicists;
• To QC and aid interpretation and analysis of land, aerial and marine survey data for potential UXO (pUXO) determination;
• To assist in project-specific UXO risk-management assessments, including creating/critiquing survey specifications, reports and installation methodologies.
Skills and Qualifications Requirements
• Five or more years industry experience in geophysical data collection, processing and interpretation focussed primarily on UXO surveys involving magnetics, but also knowledge of marine-based acoustic or electromagnetic data collection techniques;
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Geophysics or related field;
• Experience with geophysical processing and interpretation packages including Oasis montaj and ArcMap/QGIS packages;

The Tender Manager is a core member of the commercial team, responsible for managing Tenders across all Kraken business units.
