Teledyne Marine to Host Slocum Glider User’s Conference
The global oceanographic community is invited to gather in Woods Hole this fall for the Slocum Glider User’s Conference, taking place October 7–9, 2025. This three-day event will bring together Slocum glider users, marine scientists, engineers, and dignitaries for a collaborative exchange of knowledge, innovation, and mission collaboration.
The conference will culminate in the official launch of the Sentinel Mission on October 10, featuring REDWING, the first autonomous underwater glider that will embark on the first ever AUV mission to autonomously circumnavigate the globe.
“This conference is more than a technical gathering—it’s a celebration of innovation and a launchpad for a mission that will redefine what’s possible in ocean exploration,” said Shea Quinn, Slocum Glider Product Line Manager.

The Sentinel Mission: A Global First
The Sentinel Mission, a collaboration between Teledyne Webb Research and Rutgers University to complete the first-ever global circumnavigation with an autonomous underwater vehicle, is supported by NOAA, the UN Ocean Decade, and the Marine Technology Society. The mission will launch from Woods Hole on October 10, 2025, with the deployment of REDWING, a specially outfitted Slocum Sentinel Glider.
The mission aims to:
• Demonstrate cutting-edge oceanographic technology
• Promote STEM education and student-led research
• Support global ocean monitoring and climate science
Rutgers undergraduate students are actively involved in planning the glider’s route, accounting for ocean currents, recharge stops, and geopolitical considerations. The mission will also feature a live online flight viewer, branded outreach campaigns, and educational content to engage the public worldwide.

IMCA Global Summit 2024: marine contracting industry set for first global gathering since 2018
Flagship summit to debate key challenges facing offshore contracting sector including sustainability, safety, and people
Hundreds of business leaders and technical experts will gather in Utrecht in the Netherlands on 3 and 4 December for the IMCA Global Summit 2024 – the marine contracting industry’s first global event since 2018. UK future marine infrastructure in focus at MATS
The future direction of the UK’s marine research infrastructure and how to succeed in taking on solo global ocean challenges are on the keynote billboard for this year’s tenth Marine Autonomy and Technology Showcase (MATS), organiser the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) has announced.
The event will run from November 5-7, at NOC’s dockside facilities in Southampton, with the NOC operated research vessel RRS James Cook due to be alongside.
Confirmed keynote speakers include NOC CEO Dr John Siddorn, who will outline his vision for NOC, after taking over the reins earlier this year.
He is joined by Dr Katherine Hill, Lead Scientist on NERC’s Future Marine Research Infrastructure (FMRI) programme, who will focus on work done so far exploring marine science aspirations for 2040, to guide future investment in the UK’s Marine Research Infrastructure.
They will be joined by Conrad Humphreys, who will bring his unique inspirational insight as British yachtsman, business owner, adventurer and explorer, including being the youngest entrant in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race (now Volvo Ocean Race) and sailing solo in the Vendée Globe.
Alongside the keynotes, MATS technical sessions will tackle critical themes on marine autonomy including the blue economy, robotics and remote data, artificial intelligence and next generation autonomous platforms while visitors will have the chance to meet a wide range of companies and organisations in the exhibition area.

How do uncrewed surface vessels work in complement with satellites? How are sensors developed complementary to model parameterisation? How to we bring the combined toolkit together to drive integration and maximise impact?”

MARELEC conference returns to the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, UK on 9 – 11 April 2025
We are delighted to announce that MARELEC 2025, the 13th international conference on marine electromagnetics, will be held at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, UK from 9 – 11 April 2025.
MARELEC is the only international conference whose primary focus is the exchange of ideas on electromagnetics in a marine environment. MARELEC 2025 provides the opportunity to discuss ocean-based electromagnetics with leading researchers from industry, government and military centers, and academic communities. Marelec will include presentations, posters, and exhibits on innovative technologies as applied to underwater electromagnetic surveillance, communication, vessel signature prediction and control, seafloor and sub-bottom geophysical and archaeological exploration, and oceanography.
The conference technical committee comprised of leading experts in the field invites paper and poster proposals in the broad areas of marine electromagnetics concerned with theoretical development and modelling, measurement and analysis, together with case histories where appropriate.
