GEO Business postponed until November 2021

GEO Business – the UK’s largest geospatial event designed for everyone involved in the gathering, storing, processing and delivery of geospatial information – has been rescheduled from May to November for next year.

The show will be deferred from its usual spring dates on 19-20 May and will now take place on 24-25 November 2021 at ExCeL London.

The decision follows the ongoing impact of the coronavirus pandemic and comes after close monitoring of information from the government, as well as consultation with the geospatial community.

Portfolio director Caroline Hobden says: “Although all the signs are positive for a restart for large scale events from Easter, we feel running GEO Business in May could still be a little early. We want to give everyone the best possible chance for a great show, so it’s important we have a clear run into the event.

“We want to make the right decision for our community and having consulted with our exhibitors, visitors and partners, we’ve decided the best action to serve everyone is to push the show back to the autumn for one year.

“We’re disappointed not to be able to bring everyone together as soon as we had hoped. But we are committed to delivering an event in 2021 that provides the community with the most effective opportunities for networking, education, discovery and interaction – and we’re confident that the move to November means we’ll be able to return with the best show possible.

“The good news is that we won’t be letting our traditional spring dates pass without marking the occasion. We’ll be launching a digital offering in May, over our usual dates, featuring webinars, virtual panel discussions and product demonstrations, to provide a platform for the industry to connect.

“We’re also excited to announce that GEO Business will be launching a newsletter in the new year. This monthly newsletter will give the geospatial community an excellent opportunity to share news, communicate about products and services, and stay connected at a vital time for our industry.

“Finally, we’re so grateful for the incredible and continued goodwill and support the industry has shown us during these difficult times. We’re looking forward to working together over the coming months to ensure that GEO Business continues to be the celebration and gathering the geospatial profession deserves and can be proud of. And more than anything, we look forward to seeing you – in person – in November.”

The show will be co-located with Digital Construction Week, the UK’s only event dedicated to digital construction, engineering, design, manufacturing and operation, which will also move from May to 24-25 November 2021.

Ocean Business postponed until July 2021

Ocean Business organiser Diversified Communications UK has confirmed that the show’s next edition has been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The ocean technology exhibition and training forum will now take place from 12-14 October 2021 at the National Oceanography Centre, in Southampton UK.

The magnitude and unprecedented scale of the Covid-19 outbreak and the subsequent government restrictions have affected the lives and livelihoods of people and businesses around the world.

Cheri Arvonio, event director of Ocean Business, says: “Like all businesses, we have been closely following the rapidly changing developments during these difficult times. While we are hopeful that the current tough measures on restricted social interaction will be lifted by the spring, there are still too many questions surrounding hotels, travel, social distancing measures, and individual company policies, to make it viable to run Ocean Business in April. Clearly, the best and most responsible option for everyone involved is to wait and host an even better show in July.

“We appreciate how important Ocean Business is to the industry it serves and are very sorry to disappoint the thousands of attendees that were planning on exhibiting and visiting. However, the success as well as the safety of our exhibitors, visitors, speakers and partners is our priority and we are hoping that everyone will get behind this tough but necessary decision.

“The good news is that much of the event planning is already in place, and we go into 2021 with an incredible amount of good will and support. The Diversified UK team would like to thank everyone – our exhibitors, visitors, speakers and partners – for their continued support and patience. We look forward to working together to ensure that Ocean Business continues to be the celebration and gathering the industry deserves – and can be proud of.”

Ocean Business will take place from Tuesday 6th July to Thursday 8th July 2021 at the National Oceanography Centre, in Southampton UK.

Oceanology International 2020 goes virtual; Oceanology International Americas postponed

Oceanology International 2020 goes virtual; Oceanology International Americas postponed

Oceanology International 2020 is to be held virtually, bypassing the current doubts over worldwide travel and quarantine restrictions whilst bringing the Oceanology community together in a fresh, innovative way through the Oi Connect events and meetings platform. Moving to a virtual exhibition ensures that it will be open to everyone, sidestepping travel times and logistics and uniting the global ocean tech audience.

Event organisers Reed Exhibitions have also postponed Oi Americas – originally planned be held in San Diego in February 2021 – until 2023. Oi Connect 2020 will instead serve a worldwide audience in what promises to be the largest coming-together of the ocean technology sector since restrictions began, joining the best of both shows in a single, truly international event.

“The announcement by the UK Government that exhibitions will continue to be disallowed, combined with global uncertainty as the coronavirus pandemic continues, have confirmed our decision to move forward to 100% virtual with Oi Connect and to postpone Oi Americas,” said David Ince, Events Director, Reed Exhibitions. “While it is disappointing to temporarily relinquish the undisputed benefits of physical meetings, demonstrations and networking opportunities, we need to take collective responsibility for the safety of our exhibitors, visitors and staff.

“The team at Oi are well advanced in converting their two years of planning for the physical event into a unique and exciting opportunity to showcase the global marine science and oceanology community in a different, virtual way. We wholeheartedly look forward to blazing a new trail in virtual events with Oi Connect, aiding the industry in moving forward and demonstrating how resilient we can be.”

Oi Connect is an AI driven meetings and virtual event platform, going far beyond conventional videoconferencing facilities and building on the core values of physical Oceanology events to create a forum in which participants can discover innovation, learn about the latest developments in the maritime industry, attend presentations and hold face-to-face conversations. Once a registered attendee for the event has created their personal profile, this powerful tool will assist in finding valuable networking connections and generating high quality 1-2-1 meetings. They will be able to search visitors and exhibitors, identify key contacts based on their areas of interest and job types, build relationships and create business opportunities – resulting in a pre-planned roster of private virtual meetings throughout the event. A team of matchmaking professionals will support the service, assisting with arrangements, aiding with any technical questions and managing the online meetings lounge.

Oi Connect will also facilitate the Oceanology conferences, which provide technical and business insights and an opportunity to explore how connections can help underpin and grow the industry.

Oi Connect will be launching to Exhibitors and Visitors shortly and is open for anyone to attend virtually. The Oi team will be sharing full details with the community soon, and will be on hand to support visitors and exhibitors in their use of the platform and to help maximise their engagement with the global maritime audience. To find out more, and to explore opportunities still available for exhibiting with Oi Connect, visit oceanologyinternational.com.

Registration opens for the NOC’s Marine Autonomy and Technology Showcase 2020

Registration is now open for the National Oceanography Centre’s Marine Autonomy and Technology Showcase (MATS) 2020, which will be held as a virtual event for the first time from 10–12 November.

MATS 2020 will still feature a packed three-day programme of exhibits, presentations, panel discussions and networking, offering a unique and valuable opportunity to find out about the latest developments in marine autonomous technology and how this field is set to develop in the years to come. The event also enables organisations to engage with the NOC to explore opportunities around funding, sharing ideas and getting those ideas in front of influential, high-profile users from the marine and maritime sector.

As ever, the event will welcome a broad roster of speakers from across industry, academia, and government organisations. Each day of the showcase will see leading figures from the world of marine autonomy and technology take to the virtual stage to present on innovative and disruptive technologies, as well as highlighting current developments and future priorities and challenges.

Keynote speakers

This year’s keynote speakers are Leslie-Ann McGee, Assistant Director of the Consortium For Marine Robotics at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and Neil Tinmouth, Chief Operating Officer at SEA-KIT International Ltd.

As the Assistant Director for the Consortium for Marine Robotics at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Leslie-Ann is responsible for developing strategic vision and leadership, managing external relations and partnerships and retaining primary responsibility for organisational and program management of CMR.

Leslie-Ann is an expert in ocean and coastal issues in both the domestic and international arena and has a diverse background working with and for state, regional, national, business and environmental entities globally. She has successfully partnered with interest groups, industry members, private non-profits and other stakeholders to form cohesive management strategies by communicating regularly with a wide variety of stakeholders with often conflicting perspectives.

SEA-KIT International’s vision is to be a world-class provider of high technology solutions to the maritime and research industries and to open new fields and classes of technology to solve the problems of the future, today. SEA-KIT International is dedicated to working with partners and peers to create a safer and more sustainable offshore working environment.

Neil Tinmouth, Chief Operating Officer, said: “We’re delighted to have been invited to deliver the Industry keynote talk at this year’s Marine Autonomy and Technology Showcase. The Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE competition provided a fantastic springboard for SEA-KIT and enabled us to showcase our ground-breaking deployment of an autonomous underwater vehicle from an unmanned surface vehicle. We are looking forward to sharing our XPRIZE story, as well as the progress and achievements that have come since, with the MATS audience.”

Aidan Thorn, the NOC’s Marine Robotics Innovation Centre manager and chair of the MATS organising committee, said: “2020 is proving to be a hugely challenging and unsettling time for people around the world, and obviously it’s having a major impact on the industry events calendar here in the UK. In the light of this we have decided that moving MATS 2020 to a virtual conference format is the responsible and practical thing to do. As far as possible we will try to keep proceedings as ‘normal’ as possible, and the new format will offer opportunities to innovate and try new things.

'Pioneering work'

“MATS 2020 will still be a great showcase for the pioneering work that the NOC and its partners are delivering in the field of marine robotics, for the benefit of UK industry and the scientific community. The event has always been a celebration of emerging and existing partnerships across the industry, and a genuine catalyst for innovation in the sector, with a consistent theme of collaboration underpinning many of the discussions over the last few years. I am confident that these conversations and partnerships will continue the thrive despite the many challenges that we all face at the moment.”

Tickets are priced at £130 (including VAT) for the three-day online event, with a limited number of student places available costing £80. The full programme will be announced in the coming weeks.

Oceans of Opportunity to be explored at Subsea Expo 2021 - How the UK’s underwater industry can capitalise on $3 trillion Blue Economy

The theme for Subsea Expo in 2021 will be Oceans of Opportunity – harnessing the Blue Economy.

The exhibition and conference will explore how the UK’s underwater engineering industry can capitalise on the global blue economy, estimated to be worth $3 trillion by 2030.

Organised by industry body, Subsea UK, the three-day event will take place at Aberdeen’s P&J Live from 23-25 February 2021.

Europe’s largest exhibition and conference focused on the underwater industry is set to be one of the first post-pandemic, large scale physical, as opposed to virtual, events back on the international calendar.

Neil Gordon, chief executive of Subsea UK, said: “The underwater engineering industry currently generates annual revenues of £7.8billion and a large slice of that still comes from the oil and gas sector. However, as the industry extends its reach into offshore wind, defence, ocean and marine science and aquaculture, there is the opportunity to grow global marketshare of what’s now known as the blue economy or ocean economy.

“Forecast to be worth around $3 trillion in the next ten years, the blue economy is the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth. Oil and gas, offshore and marine renewables and aquaculture account for around a third of its value.

“This is good news for the subsea industry whose underwater engineering capabilities, honed in North Sea oil and gas and increasingly in demand in offshore wind, are eminently transferrable to defence, ocean science, aquaculture and deep sea mining.”

With leading figures from all these sectors presenting at Subsea Expo 2021, the event is an ideal platform for companies to glean market intelligence, identify new opportunities and ways of exploiting these.

Approaching its 16th year, the event attracts around 200 exhibitors and almost 7,000 delegates from around the world. Over a third of the floor space has already been booked for Subsea Expo 2021.

Mr Gordon added: “Interest in next year’s event is on the increase and it’s clear there is an appetite for a return to real, rather than virtual, events. Our industry’s main sector – oil and gas – has taken a double blow with coronavirus and the collapse in commodity price but, with the race to achieve net-zero, a green recovery on the horizon, including hydrogen and CCUS, coupled with oceans of opportunity in the blue economy, we are sensing renewed optimism. This augers well for 2021 and we anticipate a more buoyant mood at next year’s Subsea Expo.”

The deadline for submitting abstracts to present at Subsea Expo is 9th October. Entries for the Subsea UK Awards will also be accepted up to this date. Details about the award categories, booking exhibition space and sponsorship opportunities are available on the Subsea Expo website: www.subseaexpo.com
